Volunteers

At Toronto Private Hospital we believe volunteers are an important asset to our hospital. The Volunteer Program’s aim is to provide the highest possible care and comfort for Toronto Private Hospital patients, by supplementing the activities of the regular staff. We have recently decided to expand the role of our volunteers by assisting with the patients. TPH would like to encourage the local community to come and join our dynamic team.

The roles and responsibilities of our volunteers are to:
• Abide by Hospital policies;
• Assist in improving public relations;
• Abide by confidentiality clause;
• Work within a team structure;
• Be dependable;
• Be aware of limitations and when in doubt, ask a staff member or Nurse Manager of the ward;
• Excellent presentation and personal hygiene
• Willingness to attend training as required
• Effective Verbal and Written communication skills
• Willingness to be supportive and helpful within the workplace to clients, staff and other members of the team.

The new program for volunteers includes:
• Assistance with Fund Raisers
• Hospital Services
• Patient Orientation
• Patient Assistance
• Patient Sitters

The new program for assisting patients with meals includes
• Assisting Patients with meals (competency to be met)

The volunteer feeding program was developed by The Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney – Neurosurgical ward.
Recognition is given to Riki Friedman (Speech Pathologist), Michelle Kleiner (Dietician), Nicola Pereira (Clinical Nurse Educator – Neurosurgery) in conjunction with the RNS volunteer department.

What our volunteers receive:
• Orientation to the hospital
• Free specialised service training
• Free morning & afternoon tea
• Free uniform
• ID Badge
• Awards and certificates in recognition  of service

To become a Toronto Private Hospital Volunteer you will need to:
• Fill in the volunteer application form, include your emergency contact & referees
• Complete Hand Hygiene online Certificate (Non Clinical volunteers) http://www.hha.org.au/
• Complete a Police Check
• Provide 100 Points of ID
• Read & sign the Confidentiality Statement
• Read & sign the Duty Statement
• Attend Orientation

As this is a new program we are seeking volunteers for rostering and mentoring.
