Toronto Private Hospital Develops Free 'Moods Tracker' App to Log Moods and Identify Triggers

Toronto Private Hospital, a member of the Healthe Care Group, has developed and launched ‘Moods Tracker’ a free app available for download from the Apple app store. The app, developed in conjunction with the hospital’s mental health doctors, provides those who are living with mood disorders an application to track their mood and identify triggers.

Dr Kasia Pelichowski, of the Woodlands Mental Health Unit at Toronto Private Hospital, was integral in the app’s development. “For many years, we as mental health doctors have been requesting that our patients track their moods. It has been proven that charting moods throughout the day and reflecting on possible causes of these moods can identify triggers or trends caused by hormones, medication, sleep and stress. However, many of our patients found this task onerous and would not continue to track their mood for longer than a day or two.”

“When smart phone apps became popular a few years ago we began developing this application to provide our patients, and others who feel they would benefit from tracking their mood, with a simple app. We believe that the simplicity of the app will ensure that patients continue to track their moods, providing us with data to analyse to identify triggers,” said Dr Pelichowski.

The app asks the user to log their mood, anxiety and sleep patterns, on a daily basis which is logged within the app. This provides the patient with data to reflect upon and use to identify trends. The data is privately stored, however the user is able to share the data with their health care professional should they choose.

Toronto Private Hospital CEO Andrew Mereau is happy to finally release the app which has been in development for 18 months. “It has been a long journey from concept to completion. We have trialled the app with many of our patients and mental health professionals, made adjustments and finally arrived with a product we are truly proud of. I encourage anyone who wants to track their mood to visit the app store and download the free app.”
